Can someone send me the industry formula for calculating how many hours of development should be charged per delivery hours? Thanks in advance, Darci

That is a great question, Darci. I am pretty sure that there is some information on the ASTD National website about industry standards, but I'm not sure exactly where. Within my former organization, we actually tracked the develop hours in a time tracking system based on a project ID so that we had accurate development hours. I believe it depends on the content being delivered and whether it is very tailored and specific (such as systems training) or general (such as soft skills). I hope this helps, but I will try to do a little more research and hopefully someone else has some feedback as well!

If you pose the question on Linkedin, you'll get a number of responses....depending on delivery method (ie. blended, elearning, F2F) and the kind of training. I've seen several discussions of this type. If it's blended or elearning, try the Elearning guild, if it's instructor led, make sure you specify the deliverables...i.e. ppt, facilitator's guide, participant's guide, etc. It seems like there is some difference on the availability of training (i.e. soft skills, or Project Mgmt vs. some very specific technical topic). I think you'll easily find the information you're looking for if you start by a clearly defined deliverable.
